Akron, OH, June 16, 2022 — Slater & Zurz is pleased to announce the 5th Annual Slater & Zurz Scholarship Award winner.
Slater & Zurz is an Ohio-based personal injury law firm with offices in Akron, Canton, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, and Toledo. Their experienced attorneys are dedicated to helping Ohio college students pursue their dreams of higher education. The 4th Annual Slater & Zurz Scholarship awards a student $5,000 toward the costs of attending a college or university during the 2022-23 academic year.
This year’s winner is 17-year-old Grayden Pierce, who will attend DePaul University this fall to pursue a Film and Television Production degree.
For this year’s scholarship, students were asked to write a 1,000 – 2,000 word essay and film a two to four-minute YouTube video addressing the following question:
“What profound influence has your family had on your life, and how has that influence made you who you are today?”
Although this year’s scholarship contest attracted many captivating essays, Mr. Pierce’s submission stood out due to its superb execution, astute perspective, and true capture of the profundity and relevance of familial influence.
In his winning essay, he wrote,
“My family has influenced me so much throughout my life and has been the driving force in making me who I am today. [Their influence] has led me to try to craft and keep good relations with not only family but other people as well.” . . . “My grandparents have taught me both to welcome others when they come to me and to go to others to help myself. From being empathic with others to being able to make my own choices, [my family] has instilled in me important values I will cherish and use forever.”
When asked why he chose to pursue a degree in Film and Television Production, Grayden explained,
“I have participated both onstage and offstage in many theatrical productions around my community, and these experiences have filled me with more joy and purpose than any other activity.” . . . “[Pursuing a degree in film and television production] will allow me to mix both my love of performing stories with my love of helping other people create their own stories.”
Senior partner and injury lawyer Jim Slater and the rest of the Slater & Zurz team wish Grayden the best and look forward to hearing about his exciting path to higher education. They have no doubt he will achieve remarkable success in all of his many future endeavors.
