Since the 1950s, DuPont’s factory released C8 into the environment and it contaminated drinking water supplies in the mid-Ohio Valley Region.
Residents of this region may have been exposed to C8 simply by drinking and cooking with the water from their faucets.
In 2005, an independent Science Panel was created to study the effects of C8 on people living in the mid-Ohio Valley region. The Science Panel consisted of three (3) scientists who investigate and study the causes of disease and other public health problems. Upon completion of their study in 2013, The Science Panel verified and reported probable links between C8 and certain types of health conditions including:
Lawsuits Filed Against DuPont
Once the findings of the Science Panel were published, more than 3,500 people who either live in the affected region or once lived in the affected region began to step forward. The affected region runs from Marietta to Pomeroy on both sides of the Ohio River.
These people or one of their loved ones had developed kidney cancer, testicular cancer, and other serious health conditions caused by C8 and they wanted to take action. They filed lawsuits against DuPont claiming their health condition was the result of exposure to C8 from contaminated drinking water.
Our law firm is part of a team of highly experienced lawyers who represent over 100 clients who filed individual lawsuits against DuPont. This is not a class action lawsuit. These are individual lawsuits. Each case receives the proper attention it deserves and our team works extremely hard on each client’s lawsuit.
All these people contacted us wanting and needing help. Their lives or the lives of their loved ones have been detrimentally impacted because of their health conditions. They wanted to take action and they did. We are fiercely committed to helping them receive justice and recover adequate compensation for the full extent of their injuries and damages.
Trials Have Started and Verdicts Awarded
In January, 2019 a jury in Ohio ordered DuPont to pay $10.5 million in punitive damages to a man that developed testicular cancer from exposure to a toxic chemical leaked from a Dupont plant. In 2016, DuPont settled a case filed by a West Virginia man who said he developed ulcerative colitis from drinking water contaminated with C8.
In May of 2016, another case filed by a Washington County, Ohio man went to trial. The Marietta College professor claimed that C8 caused his testicular cancer. In July, the trial concluded and the jury awarded the man $5.1 million in compensatory damages and an additional $500,000 in punitive damages.
(Please note, past verdicts are not guarantees that similar results will be obtained in other cases.)
